Glitz and Glamour in the Dales!
January 26, 2015
During the winter months the team here at YDMT are most likely to be found wearing wellies and waterproofs whilst out and about, but this winter has brought a sprinkling of glitz and glamour to our corner of the Dales!
In October the Long Preston Floodplain Project team donned their dinner jackets and black ties to accept the 2014 Greener Craven Award on behalf of all the partners involved in this project over the last 10 years. Important wet grassland habitats and natural floodplain processes have been restored, scarce bird species are now thriving, and the site is used extensively for educational visits. It’s something we’re really proud of, and it’s lovely to have the achievements of this partnership recognised in this way. The trophy now takes pride of place in our reception. You can find out more about the project on the dedicated website: www.longprestonfloodplainproject.org
In a few days’ time the fundraising team will be getting dressed up to attend People’s Postcode Lottery’s annual Charity Gala Dinner in Edinburgh. Players of the charity lottery have raised over £58.6 Million for charities and good causes to date – including an incredible £576,332 for YDMT! – and the Gala is a chance to celebrate some of the incredible work that has been made possible by players. You can find out more about People’s Postcode Lottery on their website: www.postcodelottery.co.uk
In February two of our Trustees will be heading to Leeds for The Business Masters, a glittering and prestigious awards ceremony hosted by TheBusinessDesk.com, where our Dales Rural Trainee Scheme has been shortlisted for the best Yorkshire Apprentice Scheme award. Our project aims to provide young local people with a potentially life-changing opportunity to gain the qualifications, experience and rural skills needed to manage the Yorkshire Dales landscape sensitively and sustainably, and to pursue a fulfilling career with the Yorkshire Dales at its heart. We’re up against some tough competition, so we’ll have our fingers crossed on the night! We’ll let you know how we get on.
