Grants programme expands to help tackle climate challenges in the Yorkshire Dales
May 24, 2023
A new and enhanced grants programme was launched by Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust in June – enabling more people and groups to make a difference across their communties in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.
The programme will build on YDMT’s previous grants schemes – providing core support for communities, heritage, woodlands and young people. In 2022 more than £225,000 was awarded to local organisations and partnerships that create real change in their communities. The new scheme is easier for people and groups to apply and receive vital funds more quickly. Grants of £250 to £10,000 are available, and we can offer larger grants for exceptional projects.
Chief Executive, David Sharrod, said: “Our grants programme will provide direct support to community groups and organisations to make an impact in their local communities. The cost-of-living crisis and pandemic has made provision across rural areas all the more important. Over the past two years we’ve supported nearly 40 groups, allowing them to provide services such as medicine and food delivery, befriending and other vital services.”
“The new programme will help communities tackle the climate crisis – bringing people together to change the environment for the better as well as providing skills for rural communities to face the current challenges head on.”
The revised programme is enabled by an award from Postcode Earth Trust, thanks to funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, Laura Chow, said:
“We are very happy to share the news that our players have now raised more than £3.7 million to support work of Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust, including the local good causes they manage.
“The landscapes, villages and towns of the Yorkshire Dales are much-loved, and it is fantastic to see these funds being used to support such a wide range of community projects.”
The new YDMT Grants programme is now open for applications.
