Top tips for a healthy lunch break!

March 22, 2021

Want to know how to have a more healthy lunch break? A combination of COVID restrictions and what has seemed like a very long, cold winter has meant many of us have been spending a lot more time indoors. But with Spring now well and truly here there’s no excuse to get outside during your lunch break and enjoy the many benefits.

During the pandemic we’ve really missed the practical work we do at YDMT to help people get out and enjoy nature in the Yorkshire Dales, so we’ve been bringing a bit of that inspiration to you at home through our Discover resources and events.

As part of that we’re championing #GreenLunchHours – which is all about taking a real break away from your workspace to re-energise and re-discover that all important connection with nature.

Taking a lunch break is proven to be good for your health – so why not supercharge it with the added benefits of being outdoors in the garden or connecting with nature locally?

What are the benefits of a #GreenLunchHour?

  • Spending time outdoors, especially in green spaces, is one of the quickest ways to feel happier and healthier
  • Gentle exercise outdoors can help clear your head, improve your attention span and focus
  • Getting away from your desk improves productivity, giving your brain the chance for a rest
  • Being outdoors can lower stress, blood pressure and heart rate and it will encourage physical activity, boosting your mood and mental health.

Just 20 minutes is all it takes, so go on, get outside!

Watch out for tips and resources from us about how to make the most of your #GreenLunchHour. We’d also love to hear your stories and ideas, so please get in touch!
