Yorkshire’s Three Peaks need your vote!

March 10, 2011

Vote now for a great cause!

YDMT has entered a ‘competition’ to win 30,000 euros from the European Outdoor Conservation Association which would be spent on repairing and maintaining sections of the Three Peaks footpath route.  We recently found out that our application has made it into the final four out of 66 entries!  We are pretty chuffed!

Thousands of people take on the official Three Peaks Challenge every year, with many more picking and choosing sections of the path, allowing them to enjoy the peaks individually.  We believe that the Three Peaks Project would be a popular and truly deserving winner of this vital funding boost which would allow us to work closely with the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority to protect this special route, now and for the future.

The great British public will decide which project should get the cash via an online vote at www.lfto.com/conservation.  Voting is open now!

To secure the funding that will make this project possible, we’ll need everyone who loves the three peaks to go online and choose the ‘Yorkshire Three Peaks Route’ before voting closes on 23rd March.

Voting is really quick and easy, so it couldn’t be simpler to get involved and do your bit to support your favourite project – hopefully ours!  Just one click is all it takes to support our bid to help maintain this iconic route.

Walkers on Pen-y-Ghent

If we win, the Three Peaks Project will improve part of the route between Pen-Y-Ghent and Ribblehead through High Birkwith. For this section most walkers use the badly eroded route over the exposed peat of Horton Moor and Black Dubb Moss. A sustainable alternative route that passes over drier ground on nearby Whitber Hill will be established, and the habitat value of the eroded section will be restored through re-seeding schemes and natural regeneration. Once completed, there’ll be a launch event and walkers will be encouraged to use the alternative route through press coverage, leaflets and the Three Peaks website.

Every penny – or Euro – will go towards the conservation work for the Three Peaks so use your vote today – and do please pass this on.

So please go to www.lfto.com/conservation today to cast your vote.

The winner will be annouced at Outdoor in July.

Thank you
